Lisa’s Sweater

Lisa G.’s new sweater is a winner. The pattern is Classic Cotton Aran by Brinion Heaton in the book Classic British Knits by Madeline Weston. The book is out of print but a newer book, Country Weekend Knits, has the same patterns. Lisa found the pattern to be very well written and she did not have any problems.

She made it her own with several changes.
  • She incorporated some edge stitches into the pattern when she decreased to help with the seaming.
  • She chose to use wool yarn (Lion Brand Wool-Ease) instead of cotton.
  • She went a size larger on the needles.
  • She knit 1½ inches of rib on the sleeves and bottom instead of 2½ inches.
  • She made the collar a bit wider to balance out the chunkier look that I got with using wool yarn.
  • She lengthened the body of the sweater by about 2½ inches because she wanted a big, baggy fit.
“The sweater was pretty easy but I nicknamed it red ‘endless’ sweater because it seemed to take forever to knit,” she said. “The only somewhat challenging things about it were the C6 cable where you needed to use two cable needles at once, and seaming it in places where the designs didn’t match, like the shoulders and armholes.”

Congratulations, Lisa, on a beautiful sweater.

Vacation Time Knitting

Many of our guild members were vacationing or helping family members graduate this month. But those who attended showed some beautiful knitting.

Anne’s swirl scarf, made with one solid-color yarn
and one variegated yarn
Cheri’s Ten Stitch Blanket made from leftovers
Chris’s sock, a break from her
double-knitting afghan
Jeannie’s Ridgely shawlette
Sue L.’s merino from her trip to France
Lucky Jeannie’s Ridgely scarf won second place in a Skacel knit-along. Her prize was a package that included yarn, needles, and patterns for three garments, plus knitting notions. Congratulations!

Next month’s meeting will be on Tuesday, July 9, at Edgewood Garden. More information to follow.
