In case you missed the Grand Champion at the 2012 Puyallup Fair, here it is — Cheri’s beautiful christening gown.

The design is from a book called Heirloom Knitting by Sharon Miller. The original  has a long-sleeved dress with matching pinafore over it. Cheri said she made the pinafore only, knitted in the round to make a sleeveless dress. The slightly nubby, off-white rayon thread was from Switzerland. Cheri knit the dress on US0 circular needles.

She then made a purple puffed-sleeve dress out of very sheer cotton to go underneath.

Cheri said she started in February 2012 at Camp Burton on Vashon Island and finished in August just in time for the Puyallup Fair. Her granddaughter Stella Dawn is going to be dedicated in the dress.

Beautiful work, Cheri, and no doubt a treasured heirloom for your family.

If you are interested in Shetland knitting, Heirloom Knitting is a must-have for your library.
